Time with Friends

I got to spend several hours with my quilting buddy today.  We've really been out of touch over the summer.  She's trying to finish up a quilt that she started at a quilt retreat we attended last September.  She's been having some difficulty making the main block and the alternating block turn out the same size.  So, of course, we graphed the block, measured, cut, sewed and ironed.  We ended up with a good size, so she should be on her way.  It was great fun to spend time with a friend.  She's a good cook and I always look forward to whatever she may have planned for a meal.

This afternoon I spent some time on both the DWR pieces and made some Dear Jane blocks.  My disasters with them the last few days has at least made me more careful in my sewing.  I took one apart that was too small, and when I put it back together, it was just the right size.  At least I know my measurements were right; I just can't sew a 1/4" seam.  Hopefully, this will remind me to be more careful.

Anyway, here's a picture of what I've done today along with a couple of my smallest teacups, since these are such small quilt blocks (5 inches).  The porcelain cup is from my set of cups for each month and this is the cup for September.  The pewter cup belonged to my grandmother and is the one that started my love affair with miniature teasets and teacups.  I found the little spoon when I was a kid, and quite frankly, I don't know how I was able to keep it all these years.  I was never allowed to play with the little cup and saucer - just look at it locked up in the display case.  How I longed to have it.  My mother saw to it that it came to me when my grandmother died.

Such cute little teacups! The blocks look terrific too.

I'm glad you were able to get together with your friend. I'm sure she found wonderful help.

Wow, those are some tiny teacups! Love your blocks, they turned out great. When I was learning how to paper piece, I made a couple of mistakes and had to frog stitch. What a task to ensure you take better care while you're constructing your blocks. LOL

I love spending time with my quilting friends. It's nice to sit and talk while we're sewing and sharing our projects. Of course, the food is always great too. Quilter's are great cooks!
